(Deuteronomy 8:2)  "And you shall remember that the LORD your GOD led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

On Saturday February 25th, 2006 my husband and I received a visit at our home from Military Officers.  This was quite an unusual expectancy at that time.  Moments of silence passed as we welcomed them into our home.  We were later addressed with the news that our son, Lt. Robert E. Hayes Jr. 27, had been robbed and gunned down at a Bank ATM Machine in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  Robert was attending the Military Officers' Leadership School at the time of his death and preparing to graduate several days before his death.

A few months later, on May 19th, 2006, our youngest son, Aaron Hayes 22, married his childhood sweetheart.  Several days after their wedding he and his wife traveled to San Diego, California to pursue the life that God had given them together. On Tuesday May 23rd, 2006 at 6:30pm while watching their wedding video at home, we received a phone call from St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. The hospital informed us that our Son Aaron and his wife Erica had been involved in a car accident.   Aaron passed away as a result of injuries from the auto accident.  His wife Erica survived the accident and is doing well.

Robert and Aaron both were saved and knew God.  I thank God for the years that He allowed our sons to be with us.  Many would say that this is a profound situation.  We may never truly understand, but I can tell you that God makes no mistakes, because he does everything right.  God is a true and living God and through his Grace, He is keeping me.

Robert and Aaron were accomplishing young men and touched the lives of many people they came in contact with.  I know where my sons are and God has granted me peace and comfort through their deaths.  Gradually as my friendship with God deepens, it will lead to strength of character, peace of mind and deep satisfaction.  Long- term rewards of obeying God are greater than anything the world has to offer.

The Lt. Robert Hayes and Aaron Hayes Memorial Scholarship and Youth Basketball Foundation has been established in memory of our sons legacy.  Please Visit our Website:   www.bobcatandgoat.com
