The Power of Words, Use The Wisely!

In any relationship, there will be times of disagreement. How that disagreement is handled is how the outcome will be. Since the enemy's job is to cause divisions among couples, he wants the disagreements to escalate to anger, to quarreling, and then to using words that can pierce like a knife and cause hurt and emotional damage that can last for a very long time. Once those words have left the lips of that individual, those words can never be taken back.

We all know that when the discussion turns serious and no one is laughing anymore or the voices start to elevate, the disagreement is starting to head in the wrong direction. What can we do to make sure it does not get out of hand?  Proverbs 17:14 says "Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out." - You can't get any simpler than that. Quit why you are ahead, agree to disagree or suggest to talk about it later.

If you were not able to stop it in it's first stage, do what Proverbs 15:1 says which is: "A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."  Even if something is said that you don't like, you can show self control, answer their question in a soft voice and stay away from any remark that they may think is sarcastic. Words are powerful. Use them wisely.
