A Call to Move Forward:  A Lesson in Trusting God

How would you react if one day God asked you to give up everything you were accustomed to in order to prepare you for your destiny?  Satisfied with life as it is, God calls you to move out of your comfort zone to another level.  You have attended the same church for many years, been employed by the same job for over 20 years, and clearly the call of God says, “Move forward.”  Now, some of you reading this may say that it would be a piece of cake.  But seriously, think for a moment.  How would you react?  Well, here is a story of a young woman who heard God’s calling, but struggled to move forward.

Dawn seemed to be on top of the world.  She was a newly married minister’s wife, with a great job, and a stable home.  What more could a girl ask for?  However, in the midst of her bliss, she remembered two of her trusted friends warning her to prepare for changes God was going to bring in her life.  Now, Dawn knew that her friends were spiritual, praying women, and she took their advice.  However, she was still very guarded regarding her feelings and her actions having been hurt previously by individuals whom she trusted.

One day, Dawn’s new husband came to her and informed her that he had heard from God.  He stated that God had given him instructions that they would have to relocate to another state.  Many questions plagued Dawn’s mind.  She wanted to know when they would have to move.  Her husband stated, “Immediately.”  Her heart dropped.  “Why Lord?” she asked.

Dawn and her husband would be leaving an area full of opportunities to move to a small town where the inhabitants were known to complain about having nothing to do.  “Of all places, Lord, why there?” she cried.  Dawn knew that God had a purpose for her husband relocating, but she was concerned about her own goals and dreams.  She prayed to God everyday to change her husband’s mind about moving, but it seemed the more she prayed, the more adamant her husband became about moving.

“We have to be obedient to God’s will,” her husband would say.  “Destiny is calling,” he would add.  Although she did not want to admit it, Dawn knew that God was calling them to a new life in ministry; however, she still struggled with her own feelings of uncertainty.  She even felt that God and her husband were ganging up on her, and she did not have a say in the matter.  A decision had to be made, and Dawn knew what she had to do.  She realized she had to submit to God’s will and move with her husband because destiny was truly calling.

So, what did God really want from Dawn?  He wanted her trust Him wholeheartedly.   It is easy for people to say “Let go and let God” when it is not them being asked to do what seems to be impossible at the time.

Our Father in Heaven already knows our destiny because he has ordained it to be so.  The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not evil, to give you an expected end.”   God knows that we are human and He knows how we are going to react before we do.  So, rest assured that God has your back.  Do you need proof?  Let’s look at Romans 8:28-31.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the first born among brethren.  Moreover whom he predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called: them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?  This is our proof!

Consequently, Dawn was dealing with her fear to trust, and God knew exactly where she was.  In order for her to overcome her fear, Dawn was placed in a predicament that required her to trust.  She had to trust that God was leading her husband and therefore leading her.

As we move forward into the New Year, think again about what God is requiring of you.  The issue you have been dealing with may very well be the hindering factor keeping you from moving forward into the promises for your life.  Think about it and remember, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” Proverbs 3:5-6. Destiny awaits you!
